Hi everyone! I just came back from an enriching Photoshop CS workshop and i thought i will like to share some of the stuffs there. Just a disclaimer, everything written here is purely based on what i understood and they doesn’t portray exactly what was being taught by the instructor.

Part 1 : Colors

To start off, lets take a quick look at what’s Luma and Chroma.

Luma represents the amount of light ( In prints, brighter parts will make our eyes contract )
Wikipedia says : luma, sometimes called luminance, represents the brightness in an image (the “black-and-white” or achromatic portion of the image).

Chroma represents the amount of color
Wikipedia says : In colorimetry and color theory, colorfulnesschroma, and saturation are related but distinct concepts referring to the perceived intensity of a specific color. Colorfulness is the degree of difference between a color and gray. Chroma is the colorfulness relative to the brightness of another color that appears white under similar viewing conditions.

Lets go in depth into Chroma and look at what each color may represents

Black

Represents : Power, Elegant, Secretive
The color black can target your high end market or be used in growth marketing to add mystery to your image.

Orange

Represents: Vibrant, energy, play. (Fun!)

Green

Represents: Natural, Healthy, Plentiful. ( Calming Effect / Growth Image )

Red

Represents : Excitement, Passion, Danger, Attention Seeking ( Ferrari )
Increases pressure and heart rate, inject excitement into brand.

Purple

Represents : Royalty, Wise, Celebration ( Premium Service Business )

Blue

Represents : Loyal, Peaceful, Trustworthy ( Insurance, Building customer loyalty, Neutral and popular on a global scale)

Yellow

Represents : Happy, Warm, Alert ( crazy and anxious )
Usually used with least quantity as its the exact opposite spectrum of blue. Can attract your business with a relaxed feel.

NOTE! Never use yellow on white background! ( As shown above )

Last comment about Colors :

The color we like and visualized in our mind might not be how we may apply on our artworks. For example, if i like blue, frankly speaking, i seldom use blue as a background in my artworks.

So that’s all for now.
If you find it useful, do stay tune for the rest on typography and file formatting!
